The parts that finish the job

Ceiling roses, cord sets, lampholders, galleries, finials — the accessory range covers every component you need to install, extend, repair or customise a lighting fitting.

What's in the accessories range

Lighting accessories are the parts that connect a fitting to a power supply, extend or customise an existing fitting, or replace a broken component. Most shoppers come here for one of four jobs:

Replacing a failed component — a cracked ceiling rose, a faulty lampholder, a worn cord set. Direct replacements for standard fittings are widely available.

Extending or shortening a pendant — longer or shorter cord sets let you adjust the drop on an existing pendant to suit a different ceiling height or repositioned furniture.

Converting a fitting — changing a hardwired pendant to an easy-fit by adding a different lampholder; swapping an E27 holder for an E14; adapting a vintage fitting for modern regulations.

Custom pendant builds — a cord set, ceiling rose, lampholder and separately-chosen shade, assembled as a bespoke pendant. See lighting suspensions for pre-configured cord sets.

What's actually in the range

Ceiling roses — the wall-plate that covers the ceiling cable entry and hosts the connection terminals. Standard 4-terminal roses are universal; decorative vintage brass and modern flush designs give different visual finishes.

Cord sets and suspensions — pendant cords in various lengths, colours and finishes. Fabric-braided cords suit industrial and vintage looks; simple black or white PVC for modern minimal. See the full lighting suspensions range.

Lampholders and bulb holders — E27 (standard screw), E14 (small screw), B22 (bayonet), G9 (capsule), GU10 (spotlight). Brass, chrome, black and white finishes. Straight, angled and adjustable versions.

Galleries and shade rings — the metal ring that supports a duplex-fitting shade above the bulb. Needed if you're converting a pendant to take a traditional shade with a gallery fitting.

Finials — decorative screw-on tops for shade fittings, used to secure shade rings and add visual detail.

Adapters and convertors — E27-to-E14 and E14-to-E27 adapters for matching bulbs to fittings; bayonet-to-screw convertors for mixing old and new fittings.

Compatibility notes

Lighting accessories follow standard cap codes — so an E27 lampholder works with any E27 bulb, and a standard ceiling rose fits any fitting designed for a standard rose. A few things to check before ordering:

Current rating — ceiling roses and lampholders are rated for a maximum current (usually 3A or 6A). For multi-bulb fittings, confirm the accessory can handle the total load.

Thread size on galleries — decorative shade galleries come in several thread sizes. If replacing a gallery, measure the existing one or check the fitting's spec before ordering.

Cord load rating — pendant cords are rated for a maximum weight. A heavy fitting on an under-rated cord will stretch and eventually fail.

IP rating for bathrooms and outdoors — standard interior accessories are not safe in bathroom zones or outdoor applications. Look for IP-rated alternatives in the bathroom or exterior lighting ranges.

Installation

Most accessory replacement is DIY with the power off at the consumer unit. Replacing a ceiling rose, a lampholder, or a cord set is straightforward work. Changes that involve modifying circuits, installing new spurs or wiring bathroom/outdoor components are notifiable under Part P and need an electrician.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shorten a pendant cord myself?

Most modern pendant cords are adjustable — tighten or loosen the cord grip at the ceiling rose to change the drop. For cords that need physical cutting, the power has to be off at the consumer unit, and the new end needs to be properly stripped and terminated. If unsure, an electrician will do it quickly.

What's a ceiling rose for?

The ceiling rose is the round plate that covers the cable entry hole in the ceiling and hosts the connection terminals. It provides both the physical anchor for the pendant cord and the electrical junction between the supply cable and the fitting cable. Most standard roses are 4-terminal (live, neutral, switched live, loop).

Will a new lampholder fit my existing pendant?

If the cap type matches (E27 to E27, E14 to E14) and the cord entry matches the cord diameter, yes. Most accessories use standard metric thread and cord sizes so lampholder replacement is straightforward.

Do I need IP-rated accessories for the bathroom?

Yes — standard interior lampholders, roses and cord sets are not rated for bathroom zones. Use only bathroom-rated components, or buy complete bathroom-rated fittings from the bathroom lighting range.
