Bulbs
Replacement bulbs in every common cap type
LED, filament, smart and specialist bulbs. E27, E14, GU10, B22, G9 and more — replacements for every fitting in the range and every fitting you already own.
Picking the right bulb
Three things to get right when buying replacement bulbs:
Cap type — must match the fitting's socket. E27, E14, GU10 and B22 are the most common. Product pages list the cap type for every fitting. For your own fittings, check the existing bulb before ordering — the cap type is usually printed on the bulb.
Colour temperature — warm white (2700K) for living rooms and bedrooms; neutral (3000K) for general use; cool (3500–4000K) for kitchens, bathrooms and workspaces; daylight (5000K+) for precision task work.
Dimmability — if the fitting will be dimmed, buy a dimmable bulb. Non-dimmable LEDs fail or flicker when dimmed. Product pages mark dimmability explicitly.
Cap types at a glance
E27 (standard screw) — the most common cap. Used in pendants, table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling fittings. Screw clockwise to fit.
E14 (small screw) — candle bulbs for chandeliers, wall lights, small lamps and some pendant fittings. Same screw action as E27 but smaller.
GU10 (spotlight) — recessed downlights and spotlights. Twist-lock quarter-turn action, not screw. Mains voltage.
B22 (bayonet) — less common on new fittings but still present in many existing fittings. Push-and-twist action. Adapters convert bayonet to E27 if needed.
G9 (capsule) — small thin capsules used in wall lights, small pendants and some modern ceiling fittings. Push-fit pins.
G4 (tiny capsule) — the smallest standard capsule, used in decorative fittings and under-cabinet lighting. 12V low-voltage.
MR16 (GU5.3) — 12V spotlight bulb, older and being phased out. Needs a transformer.
LED — the default for almost everything
Modern LED bulbs have largely replaced halogen and incandescent for almost every application. Key advantages:
Efficiency — 85–90% less power than equivalent incandescents. A 10W LED replaces a 60W incandescent.
Longevity — 15,000–25,000 hours, compared to 1,000 hours for incandescent. Most household LEDs last 15+ years.
Cool running — little heat output. Safer in fabric shades, enclosed fittings and where you'll handle the bulb.
Instant on — no warm-up delay, unlike early CFLs.
Wide colour range — available in warm to cool across the full Kelvin range.
LED filament bulbs — the decorative option
LED filament bulbs put the LED "wires" in a visible bulb shape, mimicking the look of traditional incandescent filament bulbs. Ideal for:
Exposed-bulb pendants — where the bulb is visible through clear or frosted glass.
Traditional and period fittings — where the warm filament glow suits the aesthetic.
Vintage and industrial styling — Edison-style ST64 and G125 bulbs are characteristic of industrial design.
Filament LEDs cost slightly more than plain LEDs but give the decorative character that plain LEDs can't match.
Smart bulbs
Bulbs with built-in wireless electronics for app and voice control. Available in the same cap types as standard bulbs. See the dedicated smart light bulbs range.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know what cap my fitting takes?
Remove the existing bulb and check the cap. The type is usually printed on the bulb itself, or on the packaging. For new fittings, the product page lists the cap type explicitly.
What wattage LED replaces a 60W incandescent?
Typically 8–10W LED for equivalent 60W incandescent brightness. Check the lumen output on the packaging — 800 lumens is a rough equivalent to a 60W incandescent.
Can I dim any LED bulb?
No — only dimmable LEDs work on dimmer circuits. Non-dimmable LEDs flicker or fail when connected to dimmers. Check the packaging for explicit "dimmable" marking.
Why does my LED bulb buzz or flicker?
Usually dimmer incompatibility. Older dimmers designed for incandescent bulbs often don't work smoothly with LEDs. Replace the dimmer with a modern trailing-edge LED dimmer for smooth full-range dimming.
