Laura Ashley 2.5l Kitchen and Bathroom Paint

Moisture and stain-resistant paint for kitchens and bathrooms

2.5 litre Laura Ashley Kitchen and Bathroom paint — specifically formulated for rooms with steam, splash, cooking grease and frequent cleaning. Resists mould, scrubs clean, holds up to humidity.

Why kitchen and bathroom paint is different

Standard matt emulsion fails fast in kitchens and bathrooms. Cooking grease, steam, splashed food, condensation on walls and the need for regular cleaning all attack matt finishes — causing staining, marking and eventual paint breakdown. Kitchen and bathroom paint is formulated specifically for these conditions.

Key differences from standard emulsion:

Moisture resistance — formulated to handle sustained condensation and humidity without blistering, peeling or mould growth.

Stain resistance — resists cooking grease, food splash and shower-room soap scum marking the surface.

Scrubbable — withstands repeated cleaning with detergent and damp cloth. Standard emulsion marks or fades when scrubbed.

Fungicide additives — resists mould and mildew growth in damp conditions. Especially important in bathrooms and above kitchen hobs where moisture lingers.

Slight sheen — typically matt-to-low-sheen rather than fully flat, aiding cleaning.

Where to use it

Kitchen walls — particularly above counters and hobs where cooking splash matters, but also generally across kitchen walls where standard emulsion would mark.

Bathroom walls — all bathroom walls benefit, particularly near the shower, bath and basin where splash and steam are constant.

Utility rooms — where washing machines, tumble dryers and hanging laundry add humidity and condensation.

En-suite and cloakroom walls — smaller wet rooms that benefit from the same moisture-resistance as main bathrooms.

Shower rooms — provided the paint isn't inside the shower enclosure itself (where tile or specialist shower paint is needed). On shower-room walls adjacent to the enclosure, kitchen and bathroom paint works well.

Kitchen ceilings — particularly above the hob, where steam and cooking grease collect. Standard matt ceiling paint marks quickly; kitchen/bathroom formulation resists.

Where it isn't needed

Kitchen and bathroom paint is more expensive than standard matt emulsion. Use it only where the conditions justify it:

Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms — standard matt emulsion is adequate. No need for kitchen/bathroom formulation.

Hallways and stairwells — standard matt usually fine, unless the space has humidity issues.

Ceilings in dry rooms — standard matt ceiling paint works fine.

Woodwork and trim — use eggshell for these surfaces regardless of room type.

Coverage

2.5 litres of Laura Ashley Kitchen and Bathroom paint covers roughly 25–30m² per coat on smooth walls — slightly less than standard matt emulsion because the formulation is slightly thicker-bodied.

Always apply two coats minimum. Kitchen and bathroom paint's protective properties build up with coats; a single coat doesn't give full moisture resistance.

Preparation

Kitchen and bathroom walls need specific prep before painting:

Degrease thoroughly — particularly in kitchens. Sugar soap and a thorough rinse remove cooking grease that would otherwise prevent paint adhesion.

Treat any existing mould — use a mould killer and allow to dry fully before painting. Painting over active mould just hides it temporarily; within weeks it grows through the paint.

Fix underlying humidity issues — if the room has condensation or mould problems, address the ventilation first. Paint helps manage the surface but doesn't solve underlying moisture problems.

Mask and prime as usual — standard decorator's prep beyond the degreasing step.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use kitchen and bathroom paint in the actual shower enclosure?

No — inside-the-enclosure surfaces need tile, stone or specialist waterproof shower paint. Kitchen and bathroom emulsion handles adjacent wet-area walls but not constant direct water contact.

Is kitchen and bathroom paint wipeable?

Yes — formulated specifically to withstand regular cleaning with mild detergent and damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh solvents, which can mark any painted surface.

Does it come in the full Laura Ashley colour range?

Most Laura Ashley colours are available in the kitchen/bathroom formulation, though specific colour availability varies. Check the product page for the range of colours available in this specific formulation.
