What "easy-fit" actually means
An easy-fit pendant is a shade (or decorative fitting) built around a sprung metal clip that grips directly onto a standard ES/E27 or B22 bulb holder. If you already have a bare pendant cord hanging from a ceiling rose, an easy-fit pendant is the fastest way to turn it into a proper light fitting.
No rewiring. No ceiling rose replacement. No Part P notification. Power off at the wall, unscrew the old shade (if there is one), clip the new one on, screw the bulb back in, power on. Done in five minutes.
When easy-fit is the right choice
Rented homes — landlords rarely let tenants do electrical work, but swapping an easy-fit shade is fair wear-and-tear. Upgrade a bare-bulb pendant without a conversation.
Quick room refresh — changing one ceiling light can reset the whole feel of a room. Easy-fit lets you do it on a weekend without booking an electrician.
DIY-unfriendly spaces — high ceilings, old plaster, or existing rose wiring you'd rather not disturb. Easy-fit works with whatever's already there.

Shade styles available in easy-fit
Most modern pendant shades are sold as easy-fit. Fabric drums, pleated shades, glass globes, rattan and wicker, metal drums, paper lanterns and decorative cages — the full style range is available in easy-fit format.
The limitation is weight. Easy-fit clips support moderate-weight shades — fabric, paper, lightweight metal, single-piece glass. Heavier fittings (multi-arm chandeliers, solid brass, crystal-heavy pieces) need proper ceiling-rose support and aren't sold as easy-fit.
Bulbs and internal clearance
Easy-fit shades fit over a standard ES/E27 or B22 bulb. The shade sits around the bulb, so internal clearance matters — especially with smart bulbs, which are slightly larger than standard LEDs. Check the shade's internal height against the bulb's length before ordering.
LED filament bulbs are the right default — cool-running, long-life, and available in warm white (2700K) for living rooms and bedrooms or neutral (3000–4000K) for kitchens and hallways. Avoid old-style halogens in fabric or paper easy-fit shades; they run hot.

Do I need an electrician to fit an easy-fit pendant?
No. That's the whole point. Power off at the consumer unit, remove any existing shade from the bulb holder, clip the new easy-fit shade directly onto the bulb holder, screw the bulb back in, power on. No rewiring, no rose work.
Will an easy-fit shade fit my pendant?
If your existing fitting is a standard ES/E27 or B22 bulb holder on a pendant cord, yes. The clip wraps around the bulb holder's collar. It won't fit a bayonet chandelier arm, a gallery-mounted traditional pendant, or a recessed downlight — but for any modern bare-cord pendant, it's a straight swap.
Can I use a smart bulb with an easy-fit shade?
Yes, provided the bulb cap fits the socket (usually E27) and the shade has enough internal height for the slightly larger smart bulb body. Measure the shade's internal height against the smart bulb's total length before ordering.
How do I know if an existing shade is easy-fit?
Look at the top of the shade. Easy-fit shades have a sprung metal ring or clip, usually 40mm or 42mm, that grips the bulb holder. If the shade has three wire arms, a gallery collar, or a single ring that clips to the bulb itself, it's a different fitting type — see our shade buying guide.
Can easy-fit pendants be dimmed?
The shade itself doesn't affect dimming — that depends on the bulb. A dimmable LED filament bulb in an easy-fit shade, paired with a compatible dimmer switch, gives smooth dimming. For smart dimming without changing the switch, use a smart LED bulb inside the shade.
