Simply Dim

Smart dimming, nothing more complicated

Simply Dim is the simplest form of smart lighting. Dimmable fittings that pair with a lightweight companion app or remote for on/off and dim control. No voice assistant, no hub, no scenes — just smooth wireless dimming.

Why Simply Dim exists

Not everyone wants a full smart home. Most people just want dimmable lights that can be dimmed from the sofa without getting up to the wall dimmer. Simply Dim is built for exactly that:

Dim via app or remote — a simple companion app for iOS and Android, or a handheld remote included in the box. Tap or press to dim up and down. No voice assistant setup, no hub pairing, no scene programming.

On/off without a wall switch — turn the fitting on and off from anywhere in the room via the app or remote. Handy in bedrooms where the light switch is the wrong side of the bed.

Works with the existing wall switch — Simply Dim fittings retain normal wall-switch operation. Flick the switch on at the wall for full brightness; use the app or remote for fine control from there.

No internet required — Simply Dim uses Bluetooth or RF for control, not Wi-Fi. The fitting works entirely within the home, no cloud connection, no account setup, no internet dependency.

Who Simply Dim suits

People who want dimming without complication — the single most useful smart-lighting feature (wireless dimming) without any of the setup overhead of full smart-home integration.

Older adopters of smart-home tech — the learning curve is minimal. If you can use a TV remote, you can use Simply Dim. No Alexa skill to install, no app complications.

Rental properties — no hub to leave behind, no network settings to update. The fitting works wherever you take it, with its included remote.

Second homes and holiday lets — no Wi-Fi dependency means the lighting works regardless of network state. Fewer calls to landlords about "how do I use the lights".

Privacy-focused households — no cloud connection means no data leaves the home. Bluetooth or RF communication is local only.

What you don't get with Simply Dim

Being explicit about the limitations helps set expectations:

No voice control — Simply Dim fittings don't support Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit. For voice control, pick Wi-Fi smart lighting from the Alexa or Google Home ranges.

No scenes or routines — each fitting is controlled individually. Grouping, scenes and scheduled automations aren't part of the Simply Dim spec.

No colour change — Simply Dim fittings are dimmable white light only. For full colour, see colour change.

No remote access — because there's no cloud connection, you can't control the fittings from outside the home. All control is local only.

No integration with other smart devices — Simply Dim fittings don't talk to smart locks, smart plugs or any other smart-home devices. They do dimming; nothing else.

Wall switch and installation

Simply Dim fittings install like standard ceiling lights or lamps. The main consideration: don't pair Simply Dim with a traditional wall dimmer. The fitting has its own built-in dimming electronics; a wall dimmer on the circuit interferes with those. Replace any existing wall dimmer with a plain on/off switch before installing a Simply Dim fitting.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upgrade Simply Dim to full smart lighting later?

Not usually — Simply Dim fittings don't have the Wi-Fi hardware for full smart-home integration. To upgrade, replace the Simply Dim fitting with a Wi-Fi or Zigbee smart fitting from the interior smart lighting range.

Do I need to charge or pair the remote?

The remote uses a coin-cell battery (usually CR2032) lasting 12–24 months. Pairing happens once at install — usually by pressing a button on the remote while the fitting is powered on. After that, the remote works without further setup.

Can multiple fittings share one remote?

Yes — most Simply Dim remotes pair to multiple fittings. Useful for bedrooms with two bedside lamps, or living rooms with several Simply Dim fittings that should dim together. Some systems support group dimming, others dim each fitting individually via remote button presses.

Will Simply Dim work through walls?

RF-based Simply Dim systems work through walls within normal room-to-room range (10–20m typical). Bluetooth-based systems have shorter range and may need line-of-sight to the fitting. Product pages specify the communication method.
