Tiffany Wall Light

Stained glass on the wall

Tiffany wall lights — wall-mounted stained glass fittings with smaller shades. Hallways, staircases, dining rooms and period interiors where you want Tiffany's warm character at wall height.

Where Tiffany wall lights earn their place

Tiffany wall lights are smaller than their ceiling and table equivalents, which makes them versatile. One or two Tiffany wall lights can add period character to a room without the commitment of a full chandelier or pendant.

Typical applications:

Hallway and staircase accent — a series of small Tiffany wall lights along a hallway or stairwell. Warm amber glow at wall height, decorative during the day.

Either side of a fireplace — matched pair of Tiffany wall lights flanking a fireplace gives symmetry and warm light to a focal wall in a traditional living room.

Dining room walls — Tiffany wall lights as accent lighting alongside a central chandelier or pendant. Layered traditional lighting at its most effective.

Entrance halls — one Tiffany wall light beside a front door, mirror or console. First-impression warm character.

Over a sideboard or bar — two small Tiffany wall lights above a sideboard give warm downward light and decorative presence.

Traditional bedroom feature walls — bedside Tiffany wall lights with integrated pull-cord switches, as readers or accent lights.

Wall light formats in Tiffany

Single-bulb wall brackets — one Tiffany shade on a wall arm. The most common format. Modest scale, suitable for hallways and accent positions.

Double-bulb brackets — two Tiffany shades on a single wall base, usually side-by-side. More output, more visual weight.

Uplight-style wall lights — Tiffany shade facing upwards, throwing coloured light onto the ceiling. Rare but dramatic.

Downlight wall brackets — shade facing downwards, throwing warm light onto the wall below. Good over sideboards, consoles and dressing tables.

Period bracket-and-scroll — traditional ornate arm designs with Tiffany shades at the end. Suits Victorian and Edwardian properties directly.

Mounting height

Tiffany wall lights mount at roughly eye-level (150–170cm from the floor) for general hallway and accent applications. Beside beds, mount lower (120–140cm) so the light falls at reading height when propped up. On staircases, mount evenly along the wall with the light falling on the stair treads rather than the wall above.

For matched pairs (flanking a fireplace, mirror or doorway), measure carefully to ensure both fittings sit at identical heights. Asymmetrical pairs of otherwise matching wall lights look accidental rather than intentional.

Switching

Hardwired Tiffany wall lights run off a standard wall switch, usually on the same circuit as the room's main lighting. A few Tiffany wall lights include integrated pull-cord switches, useful for bedsides where you want independent on/off without a separate wall switch.

Dimming works with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer. Remember that for bathroom Tiffany wall lights (rare), the dimmer cannot be inside the bathroom zones — though most Tiffany wall lights are not IP-rated for bathroom use anyway.

Bulbs

Tiffany wall lights typically take E14 or E27 bulbs, sometimes G9 for smaller shades. LED filament bulbs in warm white (2700K) are the right default — preserves the amber character and runs cool.

Output-wise, 400–600 lumens is usually plenty for accent Tiffany wall lights; higher for primary-lighting applications.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit Tiffany wall lights myself?

Replacing a like-for-like wall light is DIY with the power off. New installations (chasing cable into walls, installing new spurs) need an electrician and are notifiable under Part P.

Can Tiffany wall lights go in a bathroom?

Only if IP-rated for bathroom zones, which standard Tiffany wall lights usually aren't. For bathroom wall lighting, use the bathroom wall light range with IP-rated fittings.

How many Tiffany wall lights do I need in a hallway?

For continuous even coverage, space Tiffany wall lights every 2–3m along the hallway wall, at eye level. For accent lighting only, a single feature Tiffany wall light at a focal point (beside a mirror or at the end of the hallway) is often enough.
